Obituary

James Green Hardy was born in Hart county, Ky., August 1, 1856 and departed this life April 12, 1933, aged 76 years, 6 months and eleven days. When a small child, he moved with his parents to Green county, Kentucky, where he grew to manhood. When 16 years old, he was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist church at New Salem, Ky.

He was married to Martha Susan Strader, December 11, 1873, and to this union eleven children were born, four dying in infancy, and a son, Henry L. Hardy, having passed away November 12, 1904, at the age of 24 years. Mr. Hardy and wife came to Missouri in 1882 and lived in Laclede county one year, coming then to Newton county and settling on a farm near Stella where they lived until 1892. they moved to Elm Springs at that time and lived there until the time of his death.

Deacon Hardy, as he was so often called, was a devout Christian and was always at his post of duty in his church work until illness prevented his going. His wife passed away June 11, 1925, they having lived together over 51 years. They were schoolmates together all through their school life, and her going left him very lonely. He often expressed the desire to go on and be with her and their loved ones. He leaves to mourn their loss three daughters, Mrs. Vona Thompson and Mrs. Valeria Denny of Neosho and Mrs. Della Pool of Ventura, Calif.; three sons, V. H. Hardy and A.M. Hardy of Neosho and W. D. Hardy of Breckenridge, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Lewis of Stella;

Obituary

Death of Henry Hardy

the deceased departed this live Nov. 14, 1904. He was born in Green county, Kentucky, March 8, 1879; came to Missouri with his parents 1884. Henry was a grandson of old father Hardy, whom we all remember hearing preach the word of God in times past. He was converted when 18 years of age and united with the Baptist church at Elm Springs. From the time of his conversion till his death he was an active worker, both in the church and the Sunday School. He told his father on Saturday that he dad not have much longer to stay with him and expressed no regrets that the summons was calling him up higher. Henry was the fifth of the family to pass to the world beyond. The departed one leaves a father, mother, three brothers and three sisters to mourn for him, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Rev. Hopkins conducted the funeral services from the church at Elm Springs, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery by the church. We can say nothing of consolation to the bereaved, for words are meaningless to the heart stricken ones. Only this can be said, that while we are only left behind for a few short days, let us so live that we may be sure of clasping hands on that bright shore, where there will be no more parting and remain forever on the right hand of God. A FRIEND

Notes for AMOS MCCREARY HARDY:

AMOS HARDY SERIOUSLY INJURED BY FREIGHT CAR Amos Hardy, 65 years old, caretaker at the Newton county court house for almost four years, was critically inured when he was struck by a flying freight car a short distance north of the K. C. S. station at 6:30 yeterday evening. He was thrown a distance of about 20 feet and was picked up by the train crew. A Bigham ambulance took him to Sale-Bowman hospital where it was found his right arm had been torn off, his shoulder mangled and he suffered from head injuries and shock. Little hope for his recovery was held at that time, but has has lived through the night and day, and appears stronger this evening. Every hour that he lives adds to his chances for recovery, his physicians have said.

While no one knows exactly how the accident happened, it is generally believed that Mr. Hardy was returning to his home after his day' work at the court house and had taken a short cut through the train yards. The freight train was making a flying switch and in avoiding the train he stepped in front of the car on the switch.

Mr. Hardy has a son, Ernest, who has assisted his father in the work at the court house, and this young man will continue the work during the administration of the present county court, it was announced today.
