BIERLY, ANTHONY,
He was one of the pioneer settlers of Brush valley. He leased a tract of three hundred acres, on part of which Rebersburg is now situated, from Col. Samuel Miles in 1791, and it is probable that he brought his family into the valley in the spring of the same year.
They came from Mahantango Creek, now Snyder County. Mr. Bierly and his son, Nicholas had been up during the previous fall to clear and put in grain a small piece of ground for the family's subsistence. A Mr. Strawbridge had cleared about half an acre; and built a hut on this tract when Mr. Bierly first came, and there were a few huts standing in the woods through other parts of the valley. Mr. Bierly's house was situated about mid way between the present homes of Peter S. and thony Bierly. There are several apple-trees around the place which were brought from below, one of which measures thirteen and one-half feet in circumference.
During the Revolutionary war Anthony Bierly served in the militia, but it is not known in what engagements he took part. On one or two occasions he, with other parties, followed Indians who had murdered white families. This occurred while he was still living along the Mahantango. He came to the valley with his family through Brush Valley Narrows, over the road which Samuel Miles had opened but a short time before, and was the first man that traveled it in a conveyance. Anthony Bierly was a native of Bavaria; his parents and an only brother, Nicholas, came to America at the same time probably, but in what year is not known. His brother settled in Ohio somewhere. His father's name was Melchior, and he lived along the Mahantango also until the Indian troubles of 1778, when he left with the "Great Runaway," and never returned from the eastern part of the State. His wife brought along a beautifully ornamented bottle from the old country, which is today a cherished relic in the family of a great-grandson, Melchior Bierly, of Rebersburg. Anthony Bierly was married to a Miss Warner; he died in 1825, and was eighty-two years of age; both he and his wife lie buried in the Lutheran and Reformed graveyard, Rebersburg, and neither grave has a tombstone with an inscription. Children,-Nicholas, John, Anthony, Margaret, married to John Philips; Mary, married to Michael Kehl; Sarah, first married to Henry Grenninger, and after his decease to George Leash; Anna, married to Philip Glantz; Barbara, married to Frederick Womeldorf; Rosina, married to Christian Gramly; Elizabeth, married to Peter Berry; Eva, married to Michael Ketner; Catharine not married. All the children are dead. (Meyer.)

The early history states Melchior had four son: Nicholas (unmarried, moved to OH), Anthony (our Subject), Jacob (unproved) and John (unproved).
Anthony was said to have been born in 1743 in Germany. A Melchior BIHRLE married at Kliengartach/Heilbronn 15 July 1738 Maria Barbara OCKER, born 1711. Church records show a daughter, Catharine Barbara, born 16 Aug 1739 Kleingartach, Germany (just north of Stuttgart) and a son, Johann Franziska, born 10 Mar 1742, died 17 Mar 1742. In order to arrive in America in Oct. 1743, the family had to leave Pfalz in March or April 1743. It is possible but unlikely, that they had a child two months old when they sailed, as stated in the early Bierly history.
The following baptisms are found in the records of the New Hanover Lutheran Church (Falckner Swamp), Montgomery County, PA. Children of Melchior/Maria Barbara:
Valentina Elisabeth BIERLE b 24 Oct 1744 bapt 18 Nov 1744,
sponsors: Valentine Rupert & wife
Maria Barbara BIRLE b 26 Jan 1746 bapt 30 Mar 1746,
sponsors: Yelden RUPPERT and wife Elisabeth
Joh Antoni Berly b 22 Dec 1747 bapt. 5 Jun 1748,
sponsors: Antoni GEIGER & Barbara
Melchior, Anthony and Nicholas Bierly were taxed on land in Augusta Twp., Northunberland Co. in 1772. In 1778, Nicholas sold his land in Sunbury to Ann Margaret GEIGER, widow.( perhaps a relative of the above)
In the records of Williams Township Congregation, Northampton County, PA., Melchior Bali, W. Barbara, and Anthony BIERLY were communicants 15 Jun 1771, Also, Anthony BEERLI and Anna Maria LADEMACHER were sponsors to Elizabeth Kessler, daughter of Peter/Eliz., baptized 25 May 1772, and Anton BIERLI, 21, was confirmed 4 Oct 1770.

Anthony Bierly was the progenitor of all the Bierly's in Sugar Valley, Clinton County and Brush Valley, Centre County, PA.
Anthony Bierly was born about 1743 in Germany and died 1825 in Rebersburg, Miles Twp., Centre County, PA. He was the son of Melchior Bierly. Anthony married Anna Maria WARNER about 1772. Anthony, his brother Nicholas, and his father Melchior, filed land warrants in the Manhantango Creek area of Northumberland County near McKee's Half Falls (now Snyder County) in 1772.
In 1778, when Indians attacked the settlement, Anthony and family fled to Lancaster County in what was known as the "Great Runaway". Family stories state that Anthony was a Minute Man and served in Washington's army but no record has been found.
Anthony paid taxes on 200 acres in the Mahantango Creek area from 1772 to 1787. In ANNALS OF BUFFALO VALLEY, Anthony is listed as an inhabitant of Penn's Twp. in 1778 Anthony leased 300 acres of land north of Rebersburg in 1791. Under terms of the lease, he was required to "pay all taxes and assessments, to plant a hundred tree apple orchard within four years, to clear and put into "Good English grass" a seven acre meadow, and to fence all improved areas of the tract. Anthony received his deed in 1798. Anthony, supposedly, was the first man to traverse the Brush Valley Narrows in a wagon.

DATABASE SOURCE INFORMATION AS FOLLOWS:
Family Data Collection
Description:
The Family Data Collection records were created while gathering genealogical data for use in the study of human genetics and disease. Compiling data for genetic research does not require the same type of documentation as traditional genealogical research. The genes themselves verify relationships and qualify or disqualify a person from a particular study. Citing the source of every genealogical fact in the electronic gene pool was deemed unnecessary and cost prohibitive by medical researchers. Millions of individual records were created from birth, marriage and death records; obituaries; probate records; books of remembrance; family histories; genealogies; family group sheets; pedigree charts; and other sources. The records collected that did not fit a specific study became the project's by-products and were schedule to be discarded. After viewing the quality of the source material used to create the gene pool and despite the absence of cited documentation, the electronic rights to the data were purchased, rather than see it destroyed.
Extended Description:
After initially posting the Family Data Collection database in July of 2000, it was decided to divide the database into three separate collections of Births, Marriages and Deaths. By so doing it was possible to standardize place names and delete duplicates. This process also allowed us to add some additional records that were not included in the first launch of the database. This data covers the entire U.S. for a wide expanse of years. At a minimum, each record contains an individual's name, date and place of event, and the name of related parties. Use this database as a finding tool, just as you would any other secondary source. When you find the name of an ancestor listed, confirm the facts in original sources, such as birth, marriage, and death records, church records, census enumerations, and probate records for the place where the even took place.
