MERRILL, Benjamin c1731 - June 19, 1771 s/o William Merrill II and Penelope Stout Wife: Jemima Smith Captain in the local Militia. He was captured at the Battle of Alamance, and was subsequently hanged on 19 June 1771 at Hillsboro, N.C. by then Govonor Tryon of South Carolina.
 
MERRILL, William c1680 - June 25, 1739 s/o William Merrill II and Penelope Stout Wife: Mary Cornell Inasmuch as William Merrill was a Militia Captain, and both of the bondsmen for his Estate were field officers in North Carolina Militia, Historians have surmised that he was killed either in guerrilla action or was among those nameless North Carolina Militia killed at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (March 1781). Whatever, William Merrill is regarded as a patriot, descendants being certifiable for the DAR.
 
MERRILL, William 4th son of Capt. Benjamin Merrill served as a drummer under Capt. David Smith and Col. Griffith Rutherford in the First Regiment of Rowan militia between August of 1775 and the spring of 1776
 
TRIBBLE, GEORGE (s/o Peter Tribble, II and Susanna (--?--)) --- TRIBBLE, GEORGE -- Spottsylvania, Sept. 3, 1832. Enlisted for nine months as minute man in Virginia Line, serving under Capt. Vivian Minor, of Caroline, and Col. Richard Johnson. Joined Taliaferro and others. Joined Lafayette's army in Culpeper and was at siege of Yorktown. In one fight at Gloucester.
